Exit Escape Room NYC : High Speed NYC

Our trip to New York took an unexpected turn when we found ourselves on a runaway subway train on the 8th floor of a skyscraper! Did we avoid disaster or get locked in?

You hop on train heading to the park for a fun day, but before you know it you realize that the train has been abandoned by it’s conductor and is now moving at high speed without a driver… You must figure out how to activate the emergency systems and stop the train… before it’s too late!! High Speed NYC is an exciting, innovative, technologically advanced hi-tech game that is guaranteed to give you an escape experience like no other.

First things first, it’s obvious from the theme and marketing that this is a runaway subway themed escape room. So imagine our surprise when we turn up at a highrise office building in Manhattan. We feel a little bit nervous when we enter what appears to be shared office space. Not expecting much we are escorted to our room… at this point we are blown away. The guys behind this room have managed to execute an excellent replicant of a New York Subway train in a skyscraper. Complete with bars to hold on to, seats, sliding doors – the works. No question, we were on a train. Without giving too much away, there is more than meets the eye to this room and each part of the experience is as fully immersive as the next.

Puzzles & Challenges

As a game, this very much falls into the modern and technical category with puzzles designed to be in keeping with the overall theme. It forces you to work as a team whilst still offering opportunities for different members of the team to explore and solve some puzzles on their own. Again, without ruining the story for you, the first set of challenges definitely make more sense than the second set. Thats not to say all of the challenges arent well executed, because they really are. This room would definitely be classed as one of the more difficult we have completed with a 25% escape rate. Attempting the room with a team of two may have been optimistic!

Value for Money

A real bug bear of mine is when you want to do a room with a smaller group and there is a risk of someone else being in the same experience as you. I dont understand how you can complete a room as a team with people you have never met. Luckily due to the time we booked this was not the case and we completed the room alone. At $50 per person this is one of the more premium experiences which is why this room doesnt score so highly on the value for money front. That being said, the room is of a good quality and so you don’t mind parting with a little more than normal. It’s also New York … do we need to say much more.

No question we both really enjoyed this room. The set up is so impressive and you cant help but feel quite excited as your runaway train experience begins. Hands down, we would both return to these guys to experience one of their other rooms on our future visits to New York.
